Useful Tips for Writing Your Online Dating Profile

One of the most important parts of having a successful online dating experience is creating an intriguing, interesting and, most importantly, honest profile. Some dating create your profile for you by asking a series of question related to your personality such as likes, dislikes, hobbies, interests, etc… Yet other dating sites simply give their users a blank slate where they can add as much, or as little information as they wish.

If you are looking for a general direction for your profile, it is generally a good idea to look through the site you plan on joining, skim through other profiles and note the ones you find interesting. Use those profiles as an outline and a brainstorming tool for your own profile (but refrain from copying, originality earns you big points in the online dating world). Here are some more tips on building a successful online dating profile that you may find helpful:

Keep the Basics in Mind

Don’t write a profile that is too long or too short. You want to say as much about yourself as possible without boring the reader. Be positive. It’s okay if you don’t like the outdoors, but if you go out of your way to write about how much you hate trees on your profile, people may get the impression that you are a negative person.

Check Your Grammar/Spelling

You know the old saying, “Anything worth doing is worth doing right.” This definitely applies when creating your online dating profile. Know bady wants to reed a proofile fuul of misteaks. So, take the simple step of typing out your profile and checking it for grammar and spelling before adding it.

Pictures Are Important

Many people won’t even respond to a profile that doesn’t have a picture of the member. Often, someone will be embarrassed to post a picture themselves on a dating site fearing that a friend or co-worker may find out. However, one should always keep in mind that online dating is nothing to be ashamed about and besides, if someone saw your picture on a dating site, it means they were searching a dating site as well.

Be Honest!

Dating online is just like dating in the real world; sometimes people are less than honest. Experienced online daters know the red flags that often indicate when someone is trying to hide their true identity in order to have an affair or simply scam a user for personal information. Codenames, no pictures in a profile and no contact information are just some of the profile traits that experienced online daters see as a negative.

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
