Online Safety Dating Tips

I recently read the following excerpt at the Today Show website on MSNBC.com:
“After a 30-year marriage, I met someone online. I was so convinced he…had fallen in love with me, as I had with him. After selling my home, cashing in all my stocks and turning them over to this man, I was taken for a ride…”

The bottom line is that online dating is where it is at nowadays. However, that doesn’t mean that you need to be scared of being taken advantage of or that you are helpless and can’t protect yourself. On the contrary, there are several things anyone can do to protect themselves when online dating. Follow these online dating tips for safety, and you’ll be fine.

Online Safety Dating Tips

  • Read about the site your about to join –
Take Fling.com for example, they clearly note that they have an Anti-Fraud group
Big sites usually have safety measure in place to take care of any problems.
  • Don’t fall head over heels –
Get to know the person first.
Don’t be a dummy like the lady above.
Regardless of where you meet someone, don’t sign your life over to them
  • Don’t be afraid to ask –
Remember these people you chat with could potentially be someone important in your life, so ask questions. Be sure to ask the important kind. Don’t ask on the first date for their criminal record, but when the time comes ask what you need to.
  • If it sounds like a scam, it usually is –
Simple enough, the internet is like anything else in life.
If it sounds too good to be true, it’s because it isn’t.
Don’t fall for scams. Most of them are posted in forums all across the net.
Take the Nigerian Bank Scam; anyone could have read about that in a forum and avoided it.
